Our History
Founded in 2005
The Strength Studio, Inc. was founded in Sebastopol, California in 2005 by Hector Sanchez.
The studio originally operated under the name Unico Duo. From the beginning, the focus was on helping people improve their health through strength training as a long-term practice, rather than a short-term fitness solution.
At the time, this method of supervised, low-force strength training was not being offered in West County.
A Consistent Method
Since its founding, the core training method has remained largely unchanged.
While scheduling systems, and operational details have evolved, the underlying approach -- controlled strength training applied deliberately and consistently — and equipment, have stayed the same.
This continuity has allowed many clients to train at the studio for ten years or longer, even as fitness trends and industry norms have shifted.
Transition to The Strength Studio (2016)
On January 1, 2016, the studio name was changed from Unico Duo to The Strength Studio.
The name change reflected greater clarity around the studio’s purpose and focus, while preserving the same ownership, method, and standards established from the beginning.
Serving Sebastopol
The Sebastopol studio was established to serve clients in West Sonoma County who were seeking a more precise, health-focused alternative to traditional gyms.
Over time, it became clear that many clients were traveling from other parts of Sonoma County due to the absence of similar training options elsewhere.
Expansion to Sonoma (2019)
In 2019, The Strength Studio expanded to Sonoma, California to better serve the east side of Sonoma County.
This decision was driven by consistent inquiries from individuals living in the area and the lack of comparable training options locally. The Sonoma location allows clients to train closer to home while maintaining the same standards and method used in Sebastopol.
Expansion was pursued to improve access — not for growth alone.
Continuity and Ownership
The Strength Studio has remained under the same ownership since its founding.
The studio continues to operate as a private, supervised practice with intentionally limited capacity, supporting long-term client relationships across both locations.
Today
Today, The Strength Studio serves adults throughout Sonoma County who are seeking a stable, structured, and health-focused approach to strength training.
The work remains the same:
apply strength training carefully, consistently, and over time.
